What is community engagement?

Community engagement is defined as the process of meaningfully involving communities impacted by research findings in the research process. Community engagement is important for improving the way research is prioritized, communicated and used in real-life settings ( Han et al., 2021 ). CanScreen T1D is committed to engaging a wide range of communities to ensure its research activities, including the pilot screening program, are informed by, understood by and relevant to those affected.

Can adults get screened for T1D through the CanScreen T1D screening program?

At this time, the pilot CanScreen T1D screening program is designed for children. We are looking to launch the screening program officially for children in Canada, and we hope that our research findings and program design can be used to launch similar T1D screening programs, e.g. for adults, in the future.

When will the CanScreen T1D screening program begin?

Given our ongoing efforts to make the screening programs national and diverse, we are expecting our pilot screening program to start in the year 2026. You can stay in the loop by following us on our social media platforms and signing up for our newsletter .
